I'm in the community health nursing exposure for almost a month now. I haven't missed the cool morning air, the vast, vivid greens nor the hot sun. We take care of the people in the community. Honestly, I don't want to be a public health nurse in the future but being there is are big things to be learned here. Its a good opportunity for testing people skills, physical endurance and doing mental exercises.
Dealing with people in this setting has been quite a fun ride. Much more when they have toddlers in the house, i must say. The people there have been enthusiastically supporting the activities we prepare for them. Its a mutually satisfying relationship. They share their time as we share our knowledge plus, the kids get free superstar treatment. I guess, that explains why the children come earlier than their parents. =). Our clients trust us enough with their house, lives and children.
In addition, this has motivated me to read more, to know more. We basically, guide the community's people to maintain that optimal level of functioning that they savor. I should be able to effectively discuss health maintenance to them. This a nurse-client relationship--- a therapeutic relationship wherein you get to see the nurse dealing with a patient and that nurse doesn't have to check an IV line or carry out a doctor's order. And this foundation assists the clients to stay on top of the race and they're glad to know that we will walk with them.
At the end of the day, i won't be sulking about how my shoes got dirty. Instead, I'd be walking around with a content heart and big smile. That's CHN for me.
By the way, the picture you see here was taken after snack time of the kids at Day Care Area of our health class held this afternoon. She was a bit timid but, obviously, lovable to the camera. a bit of editing was done on this picture using picasa.
